Ella Wareham
Translator
Ella Wareham did these three translations as part of an independent Study with Pilar Marcé during the spring semester of 2025. She is a senior at the University of Iowa majoring in International Studies and Spanish.
Description of Translation
These works are three short stories by Ana María Matute (1926-2014) an acclaimed Spanish novelist and short story writer. Her adolescence was deeply influenced by the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and this is evident in her many works that often focus on children and the loss of innocence.
Autumn Mayer

Autumn is a fourth-year student double majoring in French and English and creative writing on the publishing track. When she's not busy coordinating and translating for TIP, copyediting for Wilder Things, or being a Writing Center tutor, she can be found making her way through an endless stack of books, writing novels, or rock climbing at the Rec. During the 2025 spring semester, she studied abroad in Lyon, France.
Description of Translation
During the 2025 spring semester, I studied abroad in Lyon, France through University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC). Lyon is located in southeastern France, about 290 miles from Paris and 90 miles from Geneva, Switzerland. If you're interested in reading more about Lyon, click here. Through USAC, I toured various cities and regions of France, including Strasbourg and the Alsace region, the French Alps, Beaujolais, and Avignon, in addition to traveling extensively on my own. I completed a C1.1 DUEF (Diplôme Universitaire d'Études Françaises) in French and took a French literature course, a travel writing course, and a cooking class. I stayed in a homestay. Throughout my program, I posted updates and photos of my experiences on this blog.
